Job description

Accounts Executive

You will need to be experienced in a similar level role, happy working in Sage50 and Microsoft Excel, and be used to working to month end deadlines.

Taking care of our daily finances on site, the main job responsibilities will be :

Maintain purchase ledger

o Enter supplier invoices to Sage50, matching against PO and delivery note

o Reconcile supplier statements

o Create payment runs for authorisation and enter

Receipts & Banking

o Reconcile daily takings and organise secure cash collection

o Post remaining bank transactions and reconcile bank accounts

o Manage, reconcile and post petty cash and gift vouchers


o Raise sundry invoices when required

o Reconcile EPOS sales transactions and import to Sage on a daily basis

- Liaise with departments on sales or system discrepancies.

- Attend to finance related administration

- Work with our accountants to ensure records are accurate and up to date at all times.

Payroll (Monthly) including:

Compiling hours worked

Using Sage Payroll

Nest Contributions and Payments

Furlough Claims if required

Other Financial Duties

o Preparing Garden Centre Group figures

o Ordering of some items e.g. stationary

o Oversee Stocktake

o Liaise closely with Epos department and use the EPOS system for invoice matching and revenue data.

o Liaise closely with Management. You will be part of the senior team, ad-hoc tasks may be required.

o Participate if necessary in employee relations meetings.

Salary per annum this includes an element for seasonality and ad hoc tasks e.g. stock take when we work outside of normal hours. There is seasonality within the business and you will be expected to work the hours necessary to complete the role.

Hours : 42.5 per week

Monday – Friday 8.30am – 6pm.

Probationary Period 6 months.

Salary: £19,500.00-£24,000.00 per year dependent on qualifications and experience.

  • Data input of the Garden Centre stock system such as creating purchase orders, entering new items and goods receiving orders into the system.
  • Implement sales promotions and product discounts into the system and ensure the accurate processing of sales through the tills.
  • Carry out regular checks of the data to ensure the correct information is presented within the system and to the customer.
  • Generate management stock and sales reports showing daily, weekly and monthly data.
  • Liaise with the EPOS supplier on a regular basis to complete tasks and ensure the smooth running of the system including implementing system updates.
  • Work to deadlines to ensure stock is on the system in a timely manner to facilitate sales.
  • Assist the team in stock adjustments.
  • Investigate and correct non scan items.
  • Implement regular stock takes and the main annual stock take.


Skills/experience required for the role:


  • Administration experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to solve problems
  • Good organisational skills
  • Enjoyment of working with data
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Must be well organised and able to prioritise tasks to cope with fluctuations in the business.
  • Must be flexible, able to cope under pressure.:
  • Experience of using EPOS systems and working in a back office type role would be an advantage.
  • Retail Garden Centre or other retail experience.

Working Hours

The position is full time and the hours of work are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Salary dependent on experience.
